Give it a chance

The other day I was talking to a friend who is doing a MBA master and he told me about an activity they had just done in a previous class. The activity he told me about sounded really interesting and I just started thinking about ways of applying it into an English language classroom.
The activity he had to do consisted of building a tower as high as possible making use of spaghettis and some adhesive tape in order to keep them together. Looks easy but it is not. I tried and It was a disaster.

Then, the activity I thought about was preparing some envelopes that contained some papers about famous buidings like the eiffel tower. The students would be arranged in groups and each group would receive one of the envelopes. Thus, they would have to build the famous place as similar as possible by means of the spaghettis. Once they have finished, it is the other team's turn to identify those buildings and then the teacher or the students could talk for a while about the cultural context involved.
This activity gives us a good chance to introduce some cultural information about the countries we choose and it is also a great opportunity to promote team-work and motivation inside the classroom.
Hope you find it interesting!
Kind regards,
David.
